Enter to win the wedding of your dreams at the Crow Collection of Asian Art

According to Japanese lore, a bride who folds 1,000 origami (or sembazuru) before her wedding day will be richly rewarded with a happy marriage. The crane, which mates for life, is said to live one thousand years. By honoring this majestic bird, the bride ensures good fortune for herself and her husband.

The springtime competition “1000 Cranes, 1000 Years of Happiness” raked in more than 15,000 cranes from an array of contestants; for this year's contest, each potential bride is challenged to make origami cranes using paper and instructions supplied by Crow Collection staff. The bride, who turns in the most cranes by March 22nd, wins free usage of the museum space for their wedding ceremony and reception.

  1. Supply and instruction packets are available for pick up beginning February 22, 2012 during museum hours in the lobby of the Crow Collection of Asian art located at 2010 Flora Street.
  2. Only 2 packets are allowed per bride per visit. Each bride may pick up additional packets, upon completion of the first two.
  3. Each packet includes origami paper, beads, straws, string and specific instructions to make 250 cranes and a form to fill out to turn in with your bag of completed cranes.
  4. Cranes must be made according to the packet directions to count toward winning the contest.
  5. The winning bride is asked to plan the special event to be scheduled at least 3 months in advance and to occur within the next 24 months.
  6. The winner must work within the confines of availability and event facilities regulations.
