Olympic Hoops and the Wave!
12 August
Hello! Its Day 2 for me at the Beijing Olympics and I'm sitting in on the men's basketball watching Germany vs. Angola. Its been a pretty tight game from the start and I'm really excited because Dirk Nowitzski from the Dallas Mavericks is here playing for Germany. Its really cool seeing people from the US playing on different teams but especially thrilling to see someone from your own city team! Also, another shout out to Yao Ming who is sitting about 50 rows in front of me with some of his China teammates. Before the game started and Yao walked in, everyone in the next section went off like crazy taking pictures like nuts of the 7-foot-6 legend. I mean, many of the Olympic ushers had to stand guard and barricade the VIP seating.
Earlier I had been watching the Russian/Iranian game and about 10 Russian fans started the wave around the floor seating of the arena. It was slow at first and progrssively became more enthusiastic. So much so that the top seaters eventually caught on and created their own wave around and around the arena.
Its really mind-boggling to see so many different people from all over the world here in this gymnasium. Even though there may be only 50 obvious supporters or so for each team, everyone else joins in, in cheering for both sides. Whether the clapping is for a sweet shot or an awesome steal we're all here for the love of the game and that's really cool.
So I've got a couple more games and then I'm off for a bowl of noodles and some shopping. Until my next update, keep watching!

Olympic Volleyball With Olympic Flair!
14 August
Hi everyone! I'm still here in Beijing enjoying the Olympic games. On Tuesday I got to watch men's basketball again, and got to watch my man Dirk Nowitzski play against Greece who unfortunately beat the men from Deutchland. Sad as the score was, the second game totally made up for my disappointment in the previous game. I got to see my other fellow Texan NBA player Yao Ming battle it out against none other than LA Laker Paul Gasol who was representing Spain.
The game was seriously intense and I left on a high note with China ahead by 10 (I'm all for China. Gotta represent!). Had to go to dinner with some relatives who ars living in Beijing. When I came home, I turned on the TV and found that the game was still on. All up until the last few minutes in the 4th quarter, I realized that I was glad that I had skipped out at the end for China had been badly beaten by Spain. Needless to say, I was disappointed.
Today was by far my favorite event of all of the games I've gone to. This afternoon I arrived at the Capital Gymnasium to watch women's volleyball. The first game features Kazakstan vs. Russia where Russia creamed Kaz. The first match was definitely shorter than I expected. However the second game with Brazil vs. Serbia was by far my most favorite game to watch. Maybe it was because Brazil fans have so much enthusiasm and team spirit (some of the fans decked themselves out so extravagantly that the locals started taking pictures with them in the aisles much to the ushers' delight). Or because was trying to figure out their patterns and game plans but to no avail.
The Brazilian plays never ceases to amaze me! Always finding the open space and when they too destroyed their opposers in three straight matches their fans as well as the local and other international crowd members exploded in supportive applause.
It was truly awesome and seriously my favorite live game. Unfortunately I don't have anymore live games, but I'll still give one more report before I leave on Friday. That's all for tonight everybody! Ciao xoxo, Sean
