Crow Collection After Dark: The Arts of Japan | FREE

In Partnership with the Dallas Arts District

Discover the arts of Japan during an evening inspired by the exhibition Gold on Black: Japanese Lacquer from the Jacqueline Avant Collection. Learn the art of a Japanese tea ceremony; create Japanese scrolls, listen to performances by Japanese musicians, and end your night with a rousing rendition of your favorite song with karaoke!

Art Activity: Community Scroll
6 – 10 PM | Arbor Walk , 2nd Floor
Try your hand at traditional Japanese calligraphy and help create a community scroll.

Art Activity: Lacquer Pencil Cases
6-10 PM | Flora Street
After looking at the lacquer ware on view in Gold on Black: Japanese Lacquer from the Jacqueline Avant Collection, make your own decorative pencil cases in a similar style.

Art Activity: Inro Boxes
6-10 PM | Flora Street
Be inspired by the lacquer boxes in Gold on Black: Japanese Lacquer from the Jacqueline Avant Collection and make your own inro, small tasseled boxes used to carry personal items.

Performance on Flora Street: Dallas Kiyari Daiko

Start of your celebration of the Arts of Japan with a bang featuring a Japanese drumming performance by Dallas Kiyari Daiko.

Progressive Museum Tour
7 PM | Meet at the Admissions Desk, Nasher Sculpture Center
Join staff from the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Museum of Art, and the Crow Collection for a traveling tour of highlights from all three art museums.

Twitter Scavenger Hunt

There will be one tweet every thirty minutes (four tweets total) with the hashtag #ArtHunt providing a clue on how to find a work of art or location. Grab a token at each location; be the first to find all four works of art, and you could win a prize!

Enjoy a traditional shakuhachi, or Japanese flute performance, by Stan Richardson.

Complimentary Japanese Beer Tasting

Explore the tastes and flavors of popular Japanese beer. Supplies limited. Must show proof of age to be served alcohol.
