Scheduled from September 24 through September 27, filmAsiafest will offer a selection of Asian films to Dallas that might not otherwise be seen in the commercial theaters. filmAsiafest offers experiences through film that will challenge and expand your perspective on the world. It seeks to enlighten and educate, to push your boundaries by providing an environment that nurtures new ideas and thoughts, with the medium film as the primary instigator.

HOLLYWOOD CHINESE is, a captivating revelation on a little-known chapter of cinema—the Chinese in American feature films. The film was directed by award-winning, Oscar-nominated director, Arthur Dong, an Asian pioneer in the field of filmmaking. Dong, who has also earned a George Foster Peabody Award, three Sundance Film Festival awards, the Berlin Film festival’s Teddy Award and five Emmy nominations, will be an honored opening night guest.

Reservations required. $12 for Friends of the Crow Collection and students. $15 for non-members. Hollywood Chinese Poster Arthur Dong

OPERATION BABYLIFT: THE LOST CHILDREN OF VIETNAM

The film tells untold story of a US government project called "Operation Babylift," a $2 million dollar initiative that airlifted over 2,500 Vietnamese orphans out of a war-torn country to protect them from the impending threat of the Communist Regime. Dallas filmmaker, Tammy Nguyen Lee, directed the film and will attend the premier along with a few of those who were saved by this project that is described as one of the most humanitarian efforts in history.

Bring your blankets and pillows and come see a movie in your PJ’s! Early birds can enjoy breakfast and watch one of the most popular Japanese anime films, KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE at the Crow Collection. Stick around after the movie and enjoy children’s activities.

12:00 PM–3:00 PM: Special Screening of EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN at the Crow Collection with a special guest, Theresa Cheng, Executive Food Designer of the film

One of Lee's early Chinese trilogy, EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN, is a film set in Taipei that depicts traditional values, modern relationships and family conflicts. This screening is presented as a part of Ang Lee's Early Film Series presented by Southern Methodist University, University of Texas at Dallas and the Crow Collection and sponsored by Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. The film screening will be followed by a conversation with Chef Theresa Cheng. Cheng will share with us backstage episodes on the set and intricate relationship of food, family and life in Chinese culture.

Eat Drink Man Woman

BOMBAY SUMMER explores the fleeting and delicate friendship between three young people and its eventual disintegration in the face of betrayal and personal loss. Set in contemporary India, the film subtly mirrors the turmoil within tradition bound Indian society as it copes with change and rapid modernization. Director, Joseph Mathew, and one of the main cast members, Samrat Chakrabarti, are expected to attend the screening.
